MEET MS. JEN

Hi! I’m Jennifer Kilburn - a.k.a. by my online art students as Ms. Jen.

I am the founder of Comfort & Joy Art.

If your child is feeling anxious or overwhelmed, you’re not alone—and you’re in the right place. I create video art classes that help calm your child's heart and mind, helping to dispel their anxious thoughts. The reason I teach art to children and youth comes straight from my own journey with anxiety—one I didn’t fully understand until adulthood.

As a little girl, I never saw myself as an artist or creatively gifted. I didn’t think I was good at art, so I didn't think it was for me. It wasn’t until many years later, while working in healthcare and carrying more stress and anxiety than I knew what to do with, that everything changed.

One day, in the middle of feeling completely overwhelmed, I prayed and asked God for help. He answered in the most powerful, unexpected way: He urged me to buy paint, brushes, and a canvas. I had no plan and no confidence—just obedience. And that simple step became a turning point in my life.

Painting brought a sense of peace I hadn’t felt in years. It helped my mind settle, my heart breathe, and my anxious thoughts soften. God used creativity to restore me from the inside out. That experience reshaped the entire direction of my life.

Thirteen years later, I now teach art with a deep understanding of what it can do for the soul—especially for children who feel anxious, sensitive, or overwhelmed. My unique approach to art journaling - using the sticker story method to create fun, colorful art journaling designs, my Forest Friends video art classes, and my book, Zoobee’s Secret Sauce: A Celebration of Friendship & Generosity, all grew from that place of healing.

My art classes on video are designed to give children:

a calm, creative art experience in the comfort of your own home, a sense of accomplishment for children and youth at all skill levels, and a place where perfection doesn’t matter, and a restful place in a world that can be overwhelming at times.

If your child needs a peaceful, uplifting space where they can relax, express themselves, and feel safe—I’m here, and I would be honored to walk alongside your family.

My husband, Steve, works alongside me, and edits my video art classes. Together we love providing your family with a fun, meaningful series of video art classes to help reduce your child's anxiety and bring moments of creative calm and delight to their heart and your home.

OUR VALUES

Here at Comfort & Joy Art, children are seen as gifts to be valued, nurtured, encouraged, loved, treasured, taught, mentored, celebrated, and delighted in.

Children are one of the greatest gifts we have been given in this life.

Ms. Jen loves being able to encourage, teach, and celebrate children, and the joy they find in expressing themselves creatively through art.

Generosity is a core value of Comfort & Joy Art. It is a value that is modeled, encouraged, celebrated, and taught by Ms. Jen in her children's book, Zoobee's Secret Sauce, and in the values she shares in her video art classes for children ages 5 and up.

Creativity is a central value here at Comfort & Joy Art. Being creative is a very big part of what it means to be human, and each child was created and born with their own unique creative expression, that is as unique to them as their own fingerprint.

Instead of cookie cutter art, Ms. Jen encourages children to create each project in a way that resonates with them - whether that means adding things, changing things, or subtracting things from the art project being shared.

Ms. Jen gives each child full permission to bring their own unique creativity to the table for each art project, and create in a way that resonates with them - so that the end result is an art project that reflects their individual creative strengths and personalities.
